Wikimedia Enterprise: Transforming Global Wikipedia Data Access
Built a resilient, scalable delivery platform that provides real-time, structured Wikipedia data to major reusers/Enterprise customers like Google and Internet Archive, enhancing how knowledge is integrated into search, AI, and public digital infrastructure.
Objective
Launch a standalone system offering reliable, up-to-date access to Wikipedia content for mission-aligned and commercial users, while preserving the Wikimedia Foundation’s core systems and values.
Challenge
Delivering a system capable of handling high-volume, real-time content from 800+ project data sets while navigating Wikimedia’s tightly controlled infrastructure and aligning with its ethos of openness and transparency.
Solution
Developed a separate AWS-based environment supporting agile delivery of MVP through three architectural phases using GoLang, Python, Terraform, and React, all built to scale with minimal dependency on Wikimedia’s core infrastructure.
Results
Launched a production-grade platform used by global clients, including Google, validated structured content delivery, and enabled the Wikimedia Foundation to scale partnerships and internal tech capacity confidently.
